Friday
UmberDove
We woke early.
I dressed in wool and double mittens, filled a thermos with coffee; he wolfed down breakfast and waited for his collar. The sky was that sort of surreal thing, full specific shapes I could not name that filled the air just above the earth. I felt damp on my cheeks, numb on my fingers, the anticipation of sun. I found too many stones; my pockets nearly ripped at the seams. He ran like a beast, snorting two trails of steam in broad circles around me. I asked him to look for antlers in the tall grass lining the river banks. He slobbered my jeans. The sun broke free of the forested hills and suddenly the world was crystalline.
We breathed hard together, running down muddy banks and over the remains of redwood giants. The light nearly blinded me, but I felt no fear.
My feet were steady.

I hope yours has been filled with light!
